Deer Valley Celebrity SkiFest 2009

The Celebrity SkiFest is an invitational event pairing former Olympic ski legends with film and television celebrities for a weekend of skiing, live music, and fundraising for the environmental group Waterkeeper Alliance, which supports and empowers Waterkeeper member organizations to protect communities, ecosystems and water quality.

The Deer Valley Celebrity SkiFest includes dual giant slalom races on both Saturday and Sunday of opening weekend on Birdseye ski run. Spectators area able to watch the event from viewing areas located just outside of the Silver Lake Lodge at mid-mountain. The competition will be televised by CBS on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at 5:00PM (EST) following the NFL.

U.S. skiing legends in attendance included Steve Mahre, Phil Mahre, Tommy Moe, and Heidi Voelker. Celebrities in attendance were Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan, Larry David, Cheryl Hines, Cheryl Tiegs, Bobby Kennedy Jr., Max Kennedy, Chris Kennedy, Gloria Rueben, Rob Morrow, Dylan Bruno, and David Conrad.

Youth Bike Camp - Deer Valley Resort

Deer Valley Resort’s Mountain Bike Camp is a great way to introduce and improve biking skills specific to free-ride gravity-style riding for youth 10 to 15 years of age.  Established in 1992, Deer Valley’s mountain bike school is one of the most seasoned in the United States and the 1 to 5 staff-to-camper ratio promotes and encourages personal instruction from expert riders.  At the conclusion of the camp, participants will receive a video analysis/DVD of their skills and progress.  Campers will be trained in bike maintenance, component adjustments, proper trail etiquette and safety.

The camp costs $168 for two days and includes camp, lunches and lift tickets.  Intermediate ability or above with single-track experience is required.  Camp will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 11-12, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Bike rentals are not included in the preset price but are available at a 20% discount off the regular season rate.

Park City, UT – Deer Valley Resort® was open on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009 for the final day of the 2008-2009 ski season.  The conditions were solid and the resort offered the same level of service on the final day you would expect from SKI Magazine’s #1 resort in North America as rated by readers.  Locals traditionally skip their stylish ski attire in favor of retro one-pieces and other interesting ensembles.  Once locals said there farewells to the manicured slopes for the final time this season, they began to meet at the “Beach” located outside Silver Lake lodge at mid-mountain.  The atmosphere was energetic as the unofficial afternoon event gradually picked up steam.  Music filled the air and booze filled the glasses in a decidedly un-Deer Valley sort of way.  It’s good to see the resort can let its hair down, if only for one day a year.

We would like to thank Deer Valley Resort® management and staff for another fantastic year of service.  It’s obvious that entertaining visitors and locals for four months every year takes a lot of work and careful attention.  So, thank you again.  See you next year!

Deer Valley Resort receives another 7″ dump of The Greatest Snow on Earth® just three days before the resort closes for the season.   This is a 180° about face from the conditions experienced in late March.  The last two weeks have brought several storm systems for a total of eight feet of new snow completely reviving the conditions from late spring skiing to mid season conditions.  Just a few weeks ago it seemed like late season vacationers were in for a disappointment but the #1 resort in the country refused to disappoint.  Make sure to stop by the beach this Saturday for a final Deer Valley toast to another fantastic season.
